Student life

You might think that celebrities are only good at whatever they are famous for: Either acting, or singing, their sense of humor, or maybe only their looks. But who knew these celebrities are so brainy that they have obtained degrees at one of the prestigious Ivy League Universities?!

Ivy League: The collection of the most prestigious universities in the world (Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard UniversityUniversity of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, and Yale University.

1.     Natalie Portman

The Black Swan star and Oscar-winner, studied Psychology at Harvard and graduated in 2003. She even co-authored two research papers that were published in scientific journals!

 2.     Julia Stiles

Not only has she been nominated for the Emmy’s and Golden Globes, Julia Stiles also graduated from Columbia University in 1999 in English Literature! Fun fact: Julia Stiles dated fellow-student and now-actor, Joseph Gordon Levitt for a while before he dropped out of Columbia. Later on they starred together as in-laws in the movie “10 Things I hate about you”

 3.     Maggie Gyllenhaal

Maggie Gyllenhaal graduated from Columbia University in 1996 with a B.A. in English literature. Her famous and handsom brother Jake also enrolled, but later dropped out to focus on his acting career. However Maggie got the best of both worlds: A degree ànd nominations for a Golden Globe and an Oscar! Fun fact: Maggie enrolled in a class at uni that was taught by Professor Thurman: Uma’s daddy!

4.     Wentworth Miller

Who knew that this bad boy from Prison Break is a Princeton alumnus! Wentworth has a degree in English literature and appears to be as brainy as his alter-ego Michael Scofield.

Conan O’Brian

 5.     Emma Watson

On numerous occasions in Harry Potter, Hermione tends to get on your nerves because she is the know-it-all at Hogwarts. This girl however, has also worked her magic on academic level (real life, that is)! Last year she graduated from Brown University in (surprisingly ;) ) English literature! Fun fact: the woman who stood next to Emma during the ceremony, dressed in an academic dress, was not one of Emma’s fellow students. She was an undercover police officer, which appeared later when she took off her graduation outfit and her badge and gun showed around her waist!

 6.     James Franco

Not only is Franco a prestigious actor, winning a Golden Globe, he is also incredibly handsome, hilariously funny and extremely intelligent. Franco is a multi-accomplished academic scholar, holding four MFA’s at different universities including Columbia, and is now doing a Phd at Yale University. What a heartthrob! However, the pic below shows that this multi-tasking business does cause some fatigue at times in class ;)

 7.     John Legend

Ever wondered where John Legend got his skills of writing endlessly romantic lovesongs? This legendary singer is also an Ivy League alumnus, holding a degree in English from Pensylvania University. Last year, he received an honorary Doctor of Music at the university, and told the grads that “The key to success and happiness is to open your heart to love”

8.     Conan O’Brien

Who knew that the man who is voted as being one of the funniest people alive, is also an accomplished historian! Conan studied history and literature at Harvard University, and graduated magna cum laude.

Connon OBrain

 9.     Elizabeth Banks

Hunger-games star Elizabeth Banks looks like your typical sorority sister, which she is indeed! Elizabeth was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority when she studied at Pennsylvania University. She majored in communications and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I think this is what we call: “beauty and brains”

10. David Duchovny

Hank Moody from Californication is maybe not so much an alter-ego of badboy David Duchovny. What they both have in common: English literature, good looks and lots of beautiful women. The only difference: David Duchovny studied English literature at Princeton University. On the set, he is known for his highly creative, humoristic and sharp comments on scripts, which are frequently adapted due to his brilliant input.
