You know who I am talking about. Top students are the ones who always score 100 on the most difficult tests. They are know-it-alls of your class and the ones who seem to do everything with unbelievable ease. They are the ones you want to be around.
They are the ones everybody wants to be around.
And it all happens so quickly. Their brains attract you like they own a magic wand or possess super powers. In some ways, they do. If you are one of them, you will recognize them below. But if you are not, this is your chance to learn how they do it and join the club.
Here are ten habits of successful students today:
1. Top students know when to say no
One of the most stressful situations you will be facing when trying to reach your goals is refusing people. Even worse, they are not going to be just random people, but your very friends and family.
And the worst part?
They will make you offers you won’t be able to refuse. But when you know your next exam is on Monday, and you still have a lot to learn, the choice is pretty obvious.
You say no.
2. They don’t memorize anything
And why would they?
When we understand something, our minds usually keeps that information because it finds it interesting. On the contrary, having to memorize texts for school means that we don’t understand the ideas they refer to. When you bring the pieces to the puzzle, you are understanding, thus automatically memorising what you should learn.
Top students make sure they know what they’re learning by studying the subject intensely. In other words, they don’t have to memorize anything because the information sneaks into their brains involuntarily.
3. They are not afraid to ask for help
Top students are not necessarily geniuses. In other words, some have to work harder than others to keep up with school materials. Thus, they usually learn with study groups, they ask questions during classes whenever they have to or they simply ask a friend to help them out.
We have to accept what we don’t know and what we can’t do.
4. They take frequent breaks
As crazy as it may sound, successful students don’t study for hours.
They prioritize their health by taking breaks to eat, sleep, and exercise. Not only will this healthy routine help them study efficiently, but it will also keep them away from procrastinating and getting tired.
5. They exceed expectations
It’s not only about the other people’s expectations of them but also about their expectations of themselves.
Ben Carson, the successful neurosurgeon, once said that we should always strive to do our best in everything. In other words, top students don’t stop until they get satisfactory results or until they go beyond them.
6. They don’t limit themselves to school lessons
School projects are excellent opportunities to develop our knowledge and skills. However, successful students know there is so much more to life than what school offers. They are continually improving, no matter if the teacher is with them or not.
They question everything, read a lot, and watch a lot of documentaries on subjects they find interesting.
7. They spread good vibes
Do you know why everybody wants to
spend time with these bright minds? Well, except being smart, they are also positive thinkers.
Top students don’t complain about things that don’t go as they want. Instead, they either ignore the situations or they change them. There is no in between.
Don’t forget that they are humans too, just like us. They don’t always feel like studying or going to classes. And let’s be honest. Sometimes it takes a lot of effort to convince ourselves that the struggle is worth it.
But instead of saying “Just one more video,” or “I can’t today, I am too busy,” they force themselves to get started on what they have to do, and they do it. Successful students are successful because they hustle hard to achieve their goals, no matter what.
9. They know it’s not the make-or-break
It’s easy to lock ourselves in a room and ignore life when we think we are not good enough. But top students know such behavior won’t get them closer to success. They stay away from drama, and they know their lives don’t depend on that second prize, that internship refusal or even that bad grade.
They embrace failure and learn from their mistakes.
10. They set goals for themselves
Without having a purpose, working hard is useless. Successful students know this, and they always have a goal to work on that will help them make progress in their lives.
Do you have these super powers, too? If not, choose the habits that work for you, and use them as a foundation to become better in everything you do.
