Are you considering to enroll into an online course? Think again.
A new study shows that students are more likely to fail and/or abandon courses if taken online rather than in traditional class environment. Researchers found that just adding some face-to-face interaction (hybrid courses) will level the chances of successful graduation with those of a normal course.
The researcher, who performed the study in US community college environment, have several recommendations for colleges on how to raise the chances of beneficial online course integration:
- Require students to assess their own readiness for online course.
- Add training for faculty on online teaching methods.
- Improve support for students- both technical and pedagogical.
